Deck the Halls

"Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"? Of course it is "politically correct" to say Happy Holidays, because it is "offensive" to say Christmas. I don't believe that holiday was born on Dec. 25, I am sure that Christ was born on this day. Mike Huckabee, a Republican candidate for the 2008 election, points this out in his recent commercial about the holidays. Huckabee made no apologies about his religious tone. Huckabee says, "You can find Santa at every mall. You can find discounts in every store, but if you mention the name of Jesus, as I found out recently, it upsets the whole world. Forgive me, but I thought that was the point of the whole day." I have gathered, from observing the world, that the point of the day has gone missing. Shouldn't the day be about being with family and friends, creating memories, eating a good meal, and serving others? Look what it has become. Presents, presents, and more presents. Maybe this is the reason for our selfish world. I don't mean to offend anyone or sound judgmental, but I am offended. My whole life I haven't had to worry about offending anyone, and now I have to watch every word I say because I might hurt someone's feelings. This year, Merry Christmas is all you'll hear from my mouth. I applaud Mike Huckabee for standing strong on what he believes.

Why So Blue Panda Bear?

Recently in class we were assigned a C.E.A.(current event analysis). We were told to read an article from The Weekly Standard called "The Last Talking Point of the Left." The article was about the view of veterans. It was said that for every burnt-out vet, there are at least a dozen other vets who are building businesses, raising families, and leading communities. I couldn't believe how true the statement was. But still all you see in the news are the burnt-out vets sitting on the side of the road holding a sign begging for money. Why is it that only tragedies are plastered all over the news? Why not plaster all the good going on? I realize that tragic stories make better news than good ones, but what I don't understand is how eveyone, not just the media, focus only on the negative. Some might say in response to my argument, that tragedies shouldn't be happening and it's natural instinct to react only to negative. But if focusing only on the negative brings everyone's hopes and spirits down, what will raise them again?

Life On the Edge

Have you ever noticed when a man or woman in office tries to express concern, they often get judged in a negative light? For example, the recent california wildfires( I know...old news) was a tragic event to everyone. Why can it be just that; a tragic event? Insteard, it has become a ploy to make themselves look good. Yes, natural disasters are a good way to make yourself look concerned and increase your social status in the wolrd. What if they really are concerned and actually do care about the citezens suffering? What would you do in their position? Or even if you weren't in their position? We both know that any human in their right mind wouldn't just sit around and watch as their fellow Americans were suffering, if they knew they could do somthing about it.
